Itinerary
Day 1: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga
Your Fes to Marrakech desert tour kicks off right after breakfast at your hotel or riad then it’s time to hit the road and dive into the heart of Morocco. Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming mountain town often nicknamed the "Switzerland of Morocco" for its clean streets and alpine style architecture. From there, we head deeper into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where a break in the cedar forest gives you the chance to meet the famous Barbary macaques cheeky and curious monkeys that call this region home.
Lunchtime is relaxed and flexible, with a stop at a local restaurant along the way. As we approach Merzouga, the landscape transforms into the palm-lined Ziz Valley, a stunning prelude to the desert magic ahead. By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga just in time for a camel trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. After enjoying a hearty breakfast at your desert camp, you’ll head back to Merzouga either on camelback for one last ride through the golden sands, or by 4x4 for a more relaxed Marrakech tour. Then it’s time to hit the road toward Boumalne Dades, with a scenic drive that winds through the towns of Rissani, Erfoud, and the jaw-dropping Todgha Gorges. If you're traveling on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, you’re in for a treat: Rissani’s traditional market will be in full swing, offering a vivid glimpse into local southern Moroccan life.
Further along in Tinghir, stretch your legs with a peaceful walk by the Todra River, nestled between towering cliffs of the Todgha Gorge, a photographer's dream. By afternoon, you’ll reach the Dades Valley. But before checking in, we’ll take you on a short drive to admire the valley’s famous “monkey fingers” whimsical rock formations that look almost sculpted by hand. No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.
Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.
Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.
It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.
